Six Things to Remove from Your Kitchen

Over time, kitchens can become cluttered with items that are no longer useful or even safe. If you are planning a kitchen refurb, here are six things you should consider getting rid of to create a cleaner and more organized kitchen.

1. Out-of-Date Food and Spices

We all have that one shelf or drawer filled with half-used spices, packets and tins we bought years ago. Check expiration dates on your tins, condiments and pantry items. For spices and herbs, if they’ve lost their colour or smell, it’s time to let them go.

2. Old or Rusty Pans

Nonstick pans with scratches, warped baking trays and chipped bowls may be taking up valuable space in your kitchen. [These items can be unsafe, as damaged nonstick surfaces can release harmful chemicals into your food, and warped trays won’t heat your food evenly.

3. Unused Appliances

How often do you actually use that waffle maker or juicer? Appliances that are rarely or never used will just clutter up your kitchen. If you haven’t touched it in the past year, it might be time to donate or sell it.

4. Duplicates of Tools and Utensils

If you are considering a kitchen refurb, like those available from The Kitchen Refurbishment Company it’s time to declutter. It’s easy to accumulate multiples of spatulas, spoons, ladles or measuring cups over time, but having duplicates just adds unnecessary clutter to your kitchen. Figure out what you really need and keep only the best-quality items.

5. Plastic Containers Without Lids

A drawer full of mismatched plastic containers can quickly become a mess. Containers without lids or those that are stained or warped are not worth keeping. Recycle any old containers and consider buying a sturdy stackable glass set that will last for years to come.

Outdated or Broken Gadgets

That broken can opener or the vegetable peeler you never use should be on its way out. Kitchen gadgets are meant to make cooking easier, but when they’re broken or don’t work well, it’s time to let them go.
